Understanding Tetra PRO CO₂ & CoolPeel®

What it is: CoolPeel® is a fractional ablative CO₂ treatment performed on DEKA’s Tetra family. It uses a high-peak-power, short-duration H-Pulse designed to precisely ablate microcolumns while limiting heat spread to nearby tissue - one reason recovery is often shorter. Only DEKA/Cartessa systems perform CoolPeel®.

What it can address:

  • Uneven skin tone (like melasma) and texture

  • Fine lines and early laxity

  • Sun damage/dyschromia

  • Pore size concerns

  • Selected acne scars

Our Approach to CO₂ Resurfacing with CoolPeel®

  • Evaluation: Your clinician reviews goals, skin type, history, and timing (events, sun exposure) to confirm candidacy and set parameters. This is especially important for darker skin tones, where the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is higher and precautions are emphasized.

  • Procedure: In-office treatment uses fractional micro-beams with H-Pulse to resurface the superficial layer and stimulate renewal while limiting surrounding thermal effect. Comfort options and passes are tailored to your plan.

  • Post-Treatment Care: You’ll receive simple aftercare instructions (gentle cleanse, barrier support, strict broad-spectrum sunscreen). Avoiding unprotected sun and following instructions reduces risks like PIH and delayed healing.

  • Follow-Up Sessions: Most plans involve 1-4 sessions, spaced weeks apart, depending on the concern and desired downtime. Many patients notice a brighter look as redness settles, with progressive improvement over several weeks as new epidermis forms and remodeling begins.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is CoolPeel® CO₂ treatment safe?
When performed by trained professionals with appropriate settings and aftercare, CO₂ resurfacing is well-established and effective. Candidacy and parameters are individualized - especially for Fitzpatrick III-VI, where
PIH risk is higher and photoprotection is critical.

Does it hurt?
Patients usually describe warmth or tingling, but there will be some mild to moderate pain. CoolPeel’s short-duration H-Pulse is designed to limit peripheral heat, which can improve comfort compared with traditional continuous-wave CO₂ passes.

How many sessions will I need?
Varies by concern and downtime preference. Many plans include 1-4 sessions. Textural change or acne scarring may need staged treatments.

What is the downtime?
CoolPeel® was developed to reduce recovery compared with traditional fully ablative CO₂. Expect temporary redness and a sandpapery feel before flaking smooths out. Exact timelines depend on settings and skin type, but 1-3 days is typical.

When will I see results?
A refreshed look can appear as initial redness fades, with continued improvement over weeks as renewal progresses.

Can CO₂ be combined with other treatments?
Yes-combination care (e.g., topicals, neuromodulators, other devices) is common. Your plan will specify spacing to protect the skin barrier and healing.

Who is not a candidate?
We may avoid or delay treatment with pregnancy, active infection, recent isotretinoin use, or poorly controlled wound-healing disorders. Recent significant sun exposure needs special planning. Antiviral prophylaxis may be recommended for a history of herpes simplex.

Are results permanent?
Resurfacing improves the current state of the skin, but aging and sun exposure continue. Good skincare and sun protection help maintain results; maintenance sessions may be considered.

Will insurance cover it?
Cosmetic resurfacing is typically not covered. CO₂ for certain medically necessary lesions may be handled differently; our team can review specifics.

How should I prepare?
Avoid tanning and unprotected sun beforehand; follow any medication holds we provide (e.g., retinoids) and arrive with clean skin. We’ll give individualized instructions at your consultation.
